PostSubject: Manchester United Munich plane crash - 50th anniversary   7th February 2008, 10:37 pm

Yesterday it was the 50th anniversary of a plane crash in Munich which claimed the lives of 23 people. In my country it has been all over the press lately and when I read the articles I found it very interesting to know more about it even though I only heard about it briefly. The ones suffered are among the greatest Manchester United line ups of all time and players such as Bobby Charlton, survived the crash and is still alive today. One player, who is called Duncan Edwards, died from his injuries at only 21 and by the time of his death, he was among the greatest of all players and if he survived that crash, people have been saying that he would captain England to glory in World Cup 1966 instead of Bobby Moore.

If you want to know more info, here is the following link.

It was very sad Moldienut and what was so sad was it seems to have happened when footballers were people who mixed with their local communities and not *super* spoilt *celebrities*.

It was sad to see Bobby Charlton so upset last night on the news.

They were young men from humble backgrounds who had little oppourtunities and they were talented and lost their lives so young.

Not a Man U supporter...but felt so bad for this memory.

May they be playing football in heaven forever young!

love

When I read the full story it was sad but the ones who survived I thought was very brave. I wouldn't imagine what Duncan Edwards would achieve if he survived, he was ranked highly and was even in the England team by the time he died. He survived the plane wreckage but a few weeks later he died of internal bleeding caused by his injuries endured in the wreckage. Even though I am not a Man United supporter, I enjoyed reading the news on that and I thought Bobby Charlton was very brave to speak it out since he lost some of his friends in the squad.

Perf! How true - footballers in those days were SPORTSMEN!

I have to admit that when I lived in the UK I was a HUGE MAN U fan. I have spent many hours in the Stretford End singing my heart out!

The fact that I was in lurv with Bryan Robson also helped!!! lol lol

And the legal office where I worked in manchester used to have their christmas parties at Old Trafford too so I could hardly get away from the place.

Yep - thats another dirty secret of mine revealed.... Im a former football hooligan!

Very interesting Jane, I didn't know you were a Man U fan. I don't really support a football team but when a favourite of mine moves to a team I tend to support the player. I have been a fan of Andriy Shevchenko for many years now and I liked AC Milan because of him and since he moved to Chelsea, I lost interest because his form slumped and not getting enough games plus I do not like Chelsea anyway. I fell for a lot of players when I was younger and supported football teams randomly because of them. Nowadays if I see a Slavic player I tend to eye him up because I have a fetish about them.
